Welcome to ALCON 2026 Cincinnati
We would like to welcome you and tell you a little about us as we host this year’s conference.
The Cincinnati Astronomical Society
The conference this year is being hosted by the Cincinnati Astronomical Society, one of the nation’s oldest and largest amateur astronomy organizations.
Founded in 1911 by Dr. DeLisle Stewart, CAS for over a century has been a place for amateur astronomers to gather, observe and discuss all things related to astronomy, including astrophotography, one of Dr. Stewart’s passions. Dr Stewart was a gifted lecturer and loved to perform public outreach in Cincinnati, a tradition which continues to be very strong to this day, as CAS participates in over 60 astronomy outreach events per year.
CAS is fortunate enough to own three properties; a headquarters property on Cincinnati’s West side, which features four permanent observatories, including 14 and 16-inch Newtonian reflectors, and a vintage 1880 Alvan Clark 8-inch refractor.
We also own two dark sky properties, one in Adams County, Ohio, and another in Bracken County Kentucky, which features a 20-inch reflector. These properties bring deep sky within reach to all our members and their guests.
We have been busy preparing a fantastic conference for you, and are excited to be bringing ALCON back to the Great Lakes region for the first time in over 25 years, on this 80th anniversary of The Astronomical League, and 115th anniversary of the founding of CAS.
We are looking forward to seeing you all in Cincinnati this August for what will be a great conference for all who attend.
See you soon
