“The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption is the Mother Church of the Diocese of Covington and all are invited and encouraged to visit this magnificent house of the Lord.

The interior of St. Mary's Basilica Cathedral was modeled after Basilica of St. Denis in Saint-Denis, Seine-Saint-Denis, in France. It contains murals by the American artist Frank Duveneck. The high altar was carved from Carrara marble. The floors are covered with Rosata and Breche marble”

Affectionately known as America's Notre Dame, St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington is a beacon of faith, art and history. Built between 1894 and 1910 and recently renovated, the French Gothic architecture features flying buttresses, saint statues and terra cotta Gargoyles and Chimeras. 

The Cathedral's 82 stained glass windows include one of the largest stained glass windows in the world and two rose windows. Other highlights include two organs that are still in use today, Stations of the Cross made of Venetian glass tiles and a chapel comprised of over 350 holy relics.
